Music Player Daemon (MPD) allows remote access for playing music (MP3, MP4, Ogg, Flac, and more) and managing playlists. The design focus is on integrating a computer into a stereo system that provides control for music playback over a local network.

For install:: The musicpd package has been successfully installed. In order to run the MPD server, you need to edit the provided sample configuration file /usr/local/etc/musicpd.conf Edit the variables in the section "Files and directories" according to your local environment. Ensure that the referenced directories exist and owned by the 'mpd' user, except for the variable music_directory. It is sufficient for the 'mpd' user to have read permissions to the referenced directory. To enable the service at boot time, add the following line to /etc/rc.conf: musicpd_enable="YES" Then start the server with service musicpd start or reboot. NOTE: The musicpd server does not come with a client. In order to use it, you need one. They come in all shapes and sizes for many platforms (including iOS and Android for remote controlling musicpd from your smartphone). These URLs should point at a project website or other relevant resources. Access to these URLs required processing of the pkg-descr files, and they have often become stale over time. If more than one such URL was present in a pkg-descr file, only the first one was tarnsfered into the port INDEX, but for many ports only the last line did contain the port specific URL to further information. There have been several proposals to make a project URL available as a macro in the ports' Makefiles, over time. (Only the first 15 lines of the commit message are shown above )
